Reading and Writing
Core reading instruction at Squires Elementary School is supported by HMH-Into Reading, MyOn personalized digital library and Exact Path. This instructional approach encourages substantial differentiated reading practice to create strong readers at their independent reading level. Based on each student’s independent reading level, teachers, in collaboration with students, set personalized learning goals.
Independent reading consists of myOn digital library books and Right Start Readers from the HMH Series difficult enough to keep students challenged, but not so difficult to cause frustration. Students read independently, record their reading stats, and earn rewards based on their individual progress.
HMH-Into Reading is an integrated and well-balanced approach to reading and writing instruction across the elementary grades. Students read authentic literary and informational texts with teacher support, including modeling, scaffolding, teaching of close reading strategies, and teacher-directed activities that drive learning and motivate readers. Instruction focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening in response to these authentic texts. Backward mapping helps support students in making progress towards meeting our state’s grade-specific ELA and literacy standards.
Exact Path is a technology-based, assessment-driven reading and language arts program that is focused on understanding where students are academically, identifying strengths and weaknesses for each student, and then taking that data a step further. Adaptive tools offer targeted instruction that is aligned to student goals, paced to student needs, and structured to give students control over their own educational paths. Individualized learning paths offer a pedagogically sound sequence of lessons and activities designed to build students' skill competencies at their own pace. The program delivers teachers real-time, actionable data which allows them to provide individualized face-to-face instruction. This is what makes Exact Path a truly differentiated learning tool.

Pearson's EnVision 2.0 for Math

At Squires Elementary School, our staff is well versed at defining learning intentions for students, demonstrating what mastery of skills looks like, and working with students in a variety of settings to meet and exceed their individual goals.
In math, we use a differentiated learning approach. Teachers engage in direct instruction with students and use data from classroom observations, assessments, and from our computer-based programs to provide a scaffolded learning experience for each and every student.
Pearson EnVision Math 2.0 is a comprehensive mathematics curriculum for the elementary grades which provides the focus, coherence, and rigor required for student mastery of the Nevada Academic Content Standards. Visual learning strategies, and conceptual understanding deepen students' abilities to think mathematically. EnVision Math 2.0 is organized into clusters of connected topics and lessons. Students learn to see relationships, ask questions, and try different approaches. Problem-solving activities drives students to engage in productive struggle.
Exact Path is a technology-based math program that provides students with a challenging and engaging math curriculum that adapts to give them the support that they need, when they need it. Exact Path adapts to the individual learner through continuous formative assessment in and between lessons by analyzing over 48,000 data points per student, per hour to provide the appropriate next lesson at the appropriate time. Exact Path personalizes instruction by strategically increasing the learning velocity of struggling students, advanced students, and on-level students. Spiraling practice of conceptual understanding, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills keeps students sharp in all areas of math practice. The ongoing formative assessments identify gaps in student understanding and the engine provides students with activities to fill these gaps. The engine also ensures that learners understand concepts before moving on to new lessons. Exact Path is a blended learning math program that provides teachers with real-time, standards-aligned data to inform instruction decisions and monitor growth.
